Gilon:

In today's episode, we're going to show you how to set up an Instagram account for your podcast. If you've been podcasting for any amount of time, you already know that creating content is sometimes the least of what you do. Getting that amazing content in front of your audience and potential listeners is another big piece of what goes into podcasting, social media marketing can be a free, accessible way to do that. So on this episode, we are going to show you the key steps to setting up an Instagram account for your podcast. First things first, what type of Instagram account do you need to create personal or business, we suggest business there are more analytics offered to you on a business account such as the demographics of a visitor and how much they're engaging with your page, as well as the opportunity to link your Instagram page with your Facebook page and run ads on either Facebook or Instagram with your business account. So step number one will be finding a clean, clear profile picture, your profile picture will act as your podcast first impression on Instagram, it needs to look on brand and consistent with your podcast, it could be a picture of your podcast cover art, or a photo of you if you're going to be the face of your podcast brand. But whatever it is, just make sure that it looks consistent with the feel as well as the style of your podcast. The next step is going to be your bio. This is a very, very important aspect of your podcast Instagram account. It's basically like your podcast elevator speech. And Instagram only gives you 150 characters to make it happen. So you want to be really smart about the words that you use. Essentially, you want to hit three main components. You want to talk about what your podcast is about who hosts your podcasts, and then you want to present a call to action like listen here, for example, you would say something like we run as a podcast hosted by at Janie at Melanie about moms on the run listen at the link in bio that might be more than 150 characters. But one of the ways you can kind of work around the limitation is to use emojis. So instead of saying hosted by you could use a microphone emoji you can get creative and do things like that. And then pro tip, if you want to have some nice little formatting and your bio, you can actually create your bio in the Notes app of your phone and then copy and paste it right into the bio section of your Instagram account. The next piece of real estate on your Instagram account will be the link in bio section hear me maximize the space. So this is not necessarily the place to put a directory specific link. For example, if you use an apple podcast link for your podcast, but someone has an Android will not work. So instead what you want to do is provide a link to your podcast website like Buzzsprout provides or a link tree where you've linked all of your content, including your podcasts a much better use of space, and it'll work for everyone. Bonus highlights this is another piece of your Instagram account that some people don't really use. It's underutilized oftentimes, but you can maximize the space as well. So the highlight space are those little circles that are right above your grid. And what's fun about them is you can create unique little covers that highlight different aspects of maybe your podcast so they can include behind the scenes material or content, listener reviews or shout outs. You can also include links to other shows or other projects that you've been a part of. For example, if you were a guest on someone else's podcast, and you took a picture, you could include the picture there, you can include a video snippet there if you'd like to. It's a really cool place where you can extend engagement on your Instagram account with potential listeners as well as your current audience. And if you need some help creating some of those covers for your highlights, we recommend Canva it's a free web based tool that'll help you create those covers for your highlight section of your Instagram account. Voila, you have all the ingredients to create an interaction ready Instagram account for your podcast. Thanks for listening to Podcasting Q&A.
